The National Action Plan to Reduce Health Inequalities outlines the practical policy definitions for reducing socioeconomic health inequalities. A reduction in health inequalities has been the objective of Finland's health policy for a couple of decades but it has not been achieved, however, and inequalities have even grown. The objective of the Action Plan is to reduce health inequalities between socioeconomic population groups in work ability, functional capacity, morbidity and mortality. The effect aimed at in reducing health inequalities is to bring the status of those in a disadvantaged position in terms of health closer to those who now enjoy better health. The Action Plan is intended for central and local government decision-makers and other stakeholders, social welfare and health care experts, experts of relevant NGOs, researchers, and others interested in health promotion.
