Roots and Grain describes the role that Honkarakenne has long played as a trailblazer in log construction. The business that the Saarelainen brothers started in Lieksa in the 1950s has grown into an international success story. Success did not come immediately, nor was it easy. In the early years, the founder brothers ran the business tirelessly, while also giving their all to develop operations and new tools. Gradually, the sacrifices and hard work started to pay off. The decades provided many events and surprising turns, enough to make into a film. Today Honka builds detached houses and summer houses, as we as terraced houses, nursery schools, care homes, hotels and even hospitals, from logs. Even though logs are a very traditional material, Honka's buildings also include the newest innovations and state-of-the-art technology.
