Knits and Bits of Life - A Knitter’s Diary

Knitting has taken the world by storm in recent years, becoming a popular pastime among many. It's the perfect way to kick back and relax, and people vouch on its meditative effects. Knits and Bits of Life is a diary for keeping notes about knitting and life. Within the covers of the book, you will find sections for documenting the technical details of your current project (e.g. yarn labels, colour codes, needle sizes) as well as for writing about those big, small moments in life that happen while completing your piece. In addition to the diary pages, Knits and Bits of Life features seven warm-hearted, real-life stories of fellow knitters. Although each of their paths is unique and meandering, many of the thoughts and feelings around knitting are easy to recognize. ”Knitting makes me pause and be present in the moment,” writes Reetta Pellikka in one of the stories. “It's as if life and memories are woven into each stitch,” illustrates Hanne Valtari. How special it is to return to those memories in the form of a handmade knit! The book was edited by teacher and life coach Suvi Cederberg. Despite living in capital city Helsinki, she is a self-confessed country girl who caught the knitting bug already as a child. Faced with a new situation in life and needing something mindful and calming in order to be present in the moment, her former hobby began to bloom. She soon discovered that her knitting notes on scraps of paper and various notebooks were strewn all over the place. It gave her an idea: as someone who loves to write down thoughts about life and knitting, why not combine the two in a book.
